Planned eXpansion


So for the past couple weeks, my friends and I have been playtesting rapid iterations of Super! Power Fighter N, and we've landed on a lot of really interesting changes! The biggest changes have to do with Energy attacks and the use of Heart, but I'm not going to get very deep into that right now.

I had a 5th draft written based on the ideas from the last post, but after playing with it, it didn't feel nearly as good for some reason. And it ended up being that the villains were somehow too weak for the fighters! On top of that, the combat started feeling a little boring after more than a couple rounds since there were so few choices for fighters and not really enough going on. Now this is to be expected from a single-page RPG that's low on roleplay—there's only so much variety you can physically fit on the page.

But that got me thinking—as we were trying new things and adding new features like storing energy between turns, passing resources between fighters, and a creative "AI" system for determining the foe's actions, I realized that I needed more space.

So as we keep testing ideas and figuring out what feels the most fun, I'm planning to work on a new version to sit beside Super! Power Fighter N that I'm calling "Super! Power Fighter X" for "eXtended" because I think making the letters actually mean something is funny. In my head, X would include the ideas from BS that I mentioned in the previous post, and BS would still be an additional single page to print on the back side of N. Anyway, allowing X to have all the space it needs to explain things would also help with clarity and intent! I could put example scenarios, strategies, design concepts, and better explanations that I would otherwise be forced to stick in a post on this page if I stuck with a single page.

I'll write a new post after I get the changes all sorted out and do some more playtesting, so stay tuned!
